Q. What does GeneThera, Inc. do?
GeneThera, Inc.’s business focus is on animal diagnostic testing
to protect the food supply and ultimately to protect human safety,
and on developing therapeutic vaccines to prevent the occurrence
and spreading of disease. Q What kind of testing has the company developed?
The company has developed a live assay molecular test to diagnose
Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD). The scientific name for CWD is
Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathy (TSE). The disease affects
deer and elk, causing damage to portions of the brain. TSE is closely
related to BSE, Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy, commonly called
Mad Cow Disease, which affects cattle. GeneThera is developing live assay
tests and therapies for Johne's Disease, which are expected to be available
in late 2010 or 2011. Q. What is the turn-around time to obtain results?
Testing is completed within twenty-four hours after GeneThera receives
the blood samples. Q. How do we get the results?
GeneThera will contact the breeder by phone or via email. In the near
future, results will be available through a secure access on our website. Q. How many tests can GeneThera perform in one day?
Our current lab capacity permits up to 2000 tests per day. Q. How does GeneThera test for CWD?
Blood is drawn from the deer or elk using GeneThera's Field Collection
System. It is then shipped to GeneThera's lab for analysis. Q. What is a Field Collection System?
The field collection System consists of a proprietary testing kit
containing all the supplies needed to draw blood onsite from a single animal.
If samples are not shipped immediately to GeneThera they need to be
refrigerated or frozen and can be retained in that state for two days. Q. Where should I draw blood from the animal?
The blood can be drawn from anywhere on the animal. Q. Can humans get Mad Cow Disease?
Yes. It is called Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, of "vCJD". It is a variant of
Mad Cow Disease and is caused by eating beef contaminated with Mad Cow Disease, or BSE. Q. When is the vaccine for Mad Cow Disease going to be ready?
GeneThera's research is in the experimental stage. We estimate that it
will take at least two years to develop a vaccine. Q. What about the vaccine for Chronic Wasting Disease?
Probably the same amount of time. Q. Is the Colorado Division of Wildlife collaborating with GeneThera, Inc.?
No. Q. What about the USDA?
No. Q. Do you have veterinarians working directly or indirectly with
GeneThera, Inc. for the testing?
Yes. Q. What other assay testing is GeneThera, Inc. currently working on?
Mad Cow Disease and Johne’s Disease. Q. When will it be commercialized?
The Johne’s disease test is expected to be commercialized in
September 2007, Mad Cow Disease probably in 2008. Q. Where do I mail my blood samples for testing?
Samples can be shipped to our location in Arvada, Colorado.
